  • RSA is Almost Here and We Have Thoughts

The theme of RSA 2023 is Stronger Together. Given the growing global realization that cybersecurity partnership is vital to meet the challenges of an ever-changing threat landscape, it seems particularly apt.

The RSA community is all about “building on each other’s diverse knowledge to create the next breakthrough—exchanging ideas, sharing our success stories, and bravely examining our failures.”  That’s reflected in many of the tracks and sessions; in particular, we expect the following areas to generate some good conversation:

Shifting Left—and Right

While “shift left” has been common discourse for several years, “shift right” talk seems to be heating up for 2023, as teams increasingly see the value of both. Shifting security left and right speeds up software development efficiency, ensures performance, resilience and reliability.

Supply Chain Security

Supply chain attacks such as SolarWinds and Colonial Pipeline have pushed open source software security to the forefront. Governments are taking increased interest in open source security, SBOMs are front and center, and companies are re-examining open source risks and how to address them.

Legal Risk

The legal risks posed by cybersecurity are rising. Everything from M&A due diligence to CISO decisions can increase risk, while insecure critical infrastructure can cause damage at the national level.  As cybersecurity teams manage security risks in the trenches, senior executives need to understand how to manage cyber risk in a way that satisfies their ecosystem of customers and partners, not to mention the government.
